narrative

The SEC obtained a final consent judgment against Jimmy Gale Watson, Jr. for his role in a scheme to promote initial coin offerings (ICOs) without proper disclosure. Alongside John McAfee, Watson negotiated promotion deals with ICO issuers and helped cash out crypto payments while failing to disclose that McAfee was being paid for his Twitter endorsements. The pair also engaged in a separate scalping scheme, secretly accumulating a large position in a crypto asset security before touting it on social media to sell at a profit. As part of the judgment, Watson must pay $316,401.48 in disgorgement and $59,533.38 in prejudgment interest. He is also permanently enjoined from participating in the issuance, purchase, or sale of digital asset securities, though he may still trade for his personal accounts. Following the filing of a Notice of Death for John McAfee, the SEC's claims against him were dismissed.
