Corkery was promoted in November 2005 to Associate District Administrator for Examinations in the Boston office—the first such appointment—after 16 years of service beginning in 1989, and was praised for her leadership in investor protection.
Lucile Corkery was appointed in November 2005 as the first Associate District Administrator for Examinations in the SEC’s Boston District Office, overseeing regulatory examinations of broker-dealers, investment advisers, investment companies, and transfer agents across New England. Over her 16-year SEC career, which began in 1989 as an examiner and included promotion to branch chief in 1995 and Assistant District Administrator in 2004, she led high-profile investigations that uncovered major frauds, including misconduct by a Raymond James broker, improper market timing by FleetBoston subsidiaries, and deceptive market timing practices by five former Prudential brokers. These cases resulted in significant SEC enforcement actions, reinforcing the Commission’s investor protection mission. Corkery had prior private-sector experience in broker-dealer and investment management before joining the SEC and held a B.A. from Boston College. Her appointment was hailed by SEC leadership as a recognition of the Boston office’s growing importance and her deep industry knowledge. She was never accused of wrongdoing; instead, she was lauded as a key asset in uncovering financial misconduct. The SEC emphasized that her leadership directly strengthened the agency’s ability to detect and act on fraud in the financial markets.
