paragraph

The SEC’s Office of Compliance Inspections and Examinations, led by Director Lori Richards, announced in December 2006 the upcoming 2007 CCOutreach regional seminars aimed at chief compliance officers (CCOs) of mutual funds and investment advisers. The seminars will cover potential topics such as trade allocation, personal securities transactions, pricing and valuation, disclosures, and client asset safety, based on CCO feedback submitted via email before year-end 2006. No fraudulent activity, financial penalties, or enforcement actions are referenced—this is purely an educational outreach initiative to strengthen compliance practices.

narrative

In December 2006, the SEC’s Office of Compliance Inspections and Examinations, under Director Lori Richards, announced the upcoming 2007 CCOutreach regional seminars designed to support mutual fund and investment adviser chief compliance officers (CCOs). The initiative sought input from CCOs on preferred compliance topics to ensure the seminars addressed their most pressing concerns, with feedback due by the end of 2006. Possible discussion areas included the examination process, risk assessment, portfolio management, brokerage arrangements, best execution, trade allocation, personal securities transactions, pricing and valuation, books and records, disclosures, marketing advertising, and the safety of client assets. The SEC emphasized that the seminars were educational and preventive, not enforcement-related, and aimed to foster collaboration with CCOs to improve industry-wide compliance. No individuals, firms, or misconduct were named, and no allegations of fraud, fines, or legal actions were mentioned. The goal was to enhance understanding of regulatory expectations through targeted guidance and shared best practices. The program reflected the SEC’s broader strategy of proactive outreach to reduce violations before they occur. Further details were available on the SEC’s website at sec.gov/info/ccoutreach.htm.
